A unique concept recently opened in Mougins: Juma. “Ju” for Julien and “Ma” for Marion, the two co-founding partners. Their idea? To create a huge 3000m2 leisure room for “adults”, featuring futuristic activities using the latest technologies, in a convivial atmosphere typical of bars and pubs. A unique formula that has attracted almost 15,000 players in its first month of operation, and the buzz continues to grow. Meet Marion Massa, who tells us a little more about this innovative and daring project…
Hello Marion, could you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?
Hello ! My name is Marion Massa. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, the Massa Industriel Pneumatique group. I worked with my father in high-end real estate. I also spent five years in the United States, where I learned a lot about the entrepreneurial mentality. It was a very important step for me. Julien, my partner and co-founder, is originally from Lyon. He has always been an entrepreneur. He founded and then sold a web agency, and created the leading car maintenance website Avatacar, which is now part of the Massa group.
How did the idea for Juma come about?
We were both dreaming of a new business project. During a trip to Lyon, we tried out a virtual reality game. The experience was intense. Immediately, we wanted to know more, did some research, and discovered the EVA franchise. We signed up with them at the end of 2021. Then we started looking for premises. It was very long and complicated, here on the Côte d’Azur. We finally found this former BMW hangar in Mougins, ideal but very large: over 3000m2. We had to figure out how to complete the EVA virtual game in order to fully occupy it. That’s how we came up with the idea of creating an all-encompassing, innovative“social entertainment” concept.
Can you explain whatsocial entertainment is?
These are places where you can play, eat and drink in a convivial atmosphere. We’ve blended Anglo-Saxon concepts (single activities for adults) and French ones (large family centers), to create an original space, accessible from age 10 during the day, and more festive in the evening (forbidden to under-16s). It’s an experience for everyone, depending on the time of day: teenagers, adults, families with grown-up children. We’ve thought of everyone.
What activities are on offer?
We offer ten activities including: darts, interactive mini-golf, duckpin bowling (a fun, revisited version of traditional bowling with smaller balls and shorter lanes), car simulators, shuffleboard, interactive walls and floors, karaoke in private booths, and GameSide (a large action game with 20 immersive mini-games). As this is an innovative concept, Game Masters welcome and guide you on your arrival. And in a large adjoining room, you’ll find EVA, France’s first free virtual reality esport arena. Equipped with a VR headset and a connected rifle, you are totally immersed in different worlds.
And what about catering?
We have a beautiful, spacious dining room with a terrace. The public can eat there independently, without necessarily playing. It’s a real brasserie with South American influences: revisited tapas, grilled meats… Everything is homemade, no industrial pizzas here! You can also order food from the bar while you play.
What are the rates?
From €6 to €25 per person, depending on the activity. We also offer evening and day passes, which include unlimited play time and an optional meal.
Special events?
A lot! We’re putting together a real events calendar: blind test evenings, DJs, singles, e-sport events, mixology… Follow us by subscribing to our social networks.
