L’Hôtel de Mougins is no more, long live La Bastide de Mougins! After several months of refurbishment, the 4* hotel emblematic of the destination is embarking on a brand new life, this time in the hands of the prestigious Marriott hotel group. On the agenda: new decor, new name, new team, while remaining true to the Provencal soul of the place. Discover :

Slow living in Provence

Soft tones, natural materials, refined, contemporary design… From the moment you enter the entrance and the common areas, the atmosphere of La Bastide de Mougins envelops you in a bubble of calm and relaxation.

La Bastide was designed around the concepts of reconnecting with oneself and slow living in Provence,” explains new manager Raphaële Guignard, who has come from Mercure Cavaillon to head up this new hotel project. The hotel is now a franchisee of Tribute Portfolio, an upscale brand of the Marriott Group with just 4 addresses in France, in Paris and here. What sets this collection apart is that each hotel retains a unique identity, far removed from standardized chains. The renovation work and new decor were entrusted to a specialized firm and developed around Provencal elegance, with the garden with its lemon and orange trees as the main inspiration. Matching tones of ochre and terracotta are found throughout the establishment, along with bright, open spaces…

A garden, a veritable haven of serenity planted with Mediterranean essences, surrounds the 51 rooms (including 4 junior suites and suites), all with private terraces.

On the restaurant side, next to the sublime swimming pool, the Pool House offers a light, summery menu. The main restaurant, La Table de la Bastide, with its indoor dining room and terrace, offers bistronomic cuisine with a southern flair. The ultimate aim is ” to establish the establishment as a good local restaurant and not just a hotel “, explains management.

A move upmarket, an international clientele

On the management side, almost the entire team has been replaced, and the reception area has been redesigned, with personalized service and a gradual move upmarket. All of which is sure to delight the many customers who turned out for this first season.

We have a predominantly international clientele, with loyal guests from the old establishment curious to discover the changes made, but also many new customers, who came to us via the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program in particular,” explains the manager. Our aim is to win the loyalty of a high-end clientele in search of contemporary luxury and tailor-made experiences, who want to enjoy the calm of the Riviera, just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the coast”.

Purchased in December 2024 by the Grolleau family and reopened in May under the Sure Hotel by Best Western banner, the former Belvedere hotel in Mougins has undergone a complete renovation. In charge of operations, Robin Dallest, assistant manager, is aiming for a mon service and proximity.

In the shade of the pines, overlooking the Bay of Cannes and close to major traffic arteries, this 2-star hotel, now part of the Best Western group (Sure Hotel brand), boasts 55 freshly renovated rooms (including 3 with PRM access). All feature the same tones: white, bright pastel colors, flat-screen TVs, comfortable “divisible” beds to easily accommodate groups, mezzanines for family versions, and everything you need for a cup of coffee or tea. There’s no doubt about it: comfort and conviviality are the order of the day. The same atmosphere can be found in the large breakfast room and reception area, which have also been spruced up.

Services include a snack bar for lunch and dinner, a MyWoo corner dedicated to coworking, and soon, a small meeting room, not to mention secure private parking and the swimming pool, which is also scheduled for a major facelift!

Service and people as added value

But it’s not just these renovations and new facilities that make the facility so attractive, as the deputy director explains: “the real added value is the human touch, the delicate intention. Just because we have two stars doesn’t mean we have to settle for the minimum. We have a great team, and my aim is to get the staff even more involved, to encourage them to create a lasting bond with customers, and to make the attention we pay to people the primary lever for building loyalty. I can easily imagine the introduction of little welcome gifts for our guests, highlighting local know-how, with refined advice on what there is to see and do during their stay”. This young man knows what he’s talking about: with a wealth of experience in the hotel world, he has worked in top establishments where service is king, such as the Martinez in Cannes, or the Hostellerie La Farandole **** in Sanary-sur-Mer.

Its objectives: a gradual move upmarket, with an eye on a possible third star. But also: a balanced distribution between business and leisure customers, and continued technical improvements.

I’m very optimistic, ” concludes Robin Dallest, “as the initial feedback is already very encouraging. To be continued…

Natacha Caruana is no longer an unknown in France. Winner of the BMW Artist in Residence Award in 2014, she has nevertheless not gotten the exposure that she deserves. For fifteen years, the British artist has been fictionally creating scenarios that recount personal relationships, the complexity of positions in a heterosexual couple. With typically British wit, Caruana structures photographic encounters using documentation and staging.

  1. From the first series, The Other Woman, we are confronted with the secret lives of married women in extra-conjugal romantic relationships. This series introduced an original tone that subsequently developed with Married Man – less an interrogation of the couple than of the ongoing miracle of how it lasts, its fragility and vulnerability to temptation. All of the series hold something of a perfect ill

  3. ustration of the power of desire, its tiny daily perversions and untold secrets – all of which constitutes the work’s originality, never passing judgement but confronting us with the complexity of the couple as an institution. While the theme may be stinging at times (Curtain of Broken Dreams), the illusion that anything is possible still lingers in spite of everything (At First Sight).
