In the heart of the village since the 11th century

In the heart of the village of Mougins, the church of Saint-Jacques le Majeur was built in three stages.
The sacristy dates to the 11th century. The building was then enlarged in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Once inside the church, one can admire the gilded cardboard statues of St. Joseph and St. Mary made by the talents of the Grasse School of the 18th century. Also worth seeing is a 15th century crucifix in gilded and polychrome wood.
The font and baptismal font date from the 18th century. In the choir, the altar stone was cut in the 11th century. The presbytery was rebuilt before the revolution on the site of a cesspool and a former “blood mill”. In the Place des Amis, next to the church, you can see the work of the sculptor Carla Lavatelli (1995).
This comprises a bench on which you can sit and a fountain running along the adjacent alleyway, allowing the gentle sound of running water to escape.
